Statistics show that over 40% of adult Albertans do not have the literacy skills they need to keep pace with today’s changing society.

At Literacy Alberta, we focus on the needs of those adults by helping the people who work within the literacy field to become better educators and promoters of literacy.

We develop excellent tools, resources, and high quality professional development training. We also raise awareness about emerging literacy issues, and we assist adult learners by operating a provincial Literacy Helpline.

Literacy Alberta also supports learners and volunteer tutors by helping them to attend our annual literacy and learning symposium. The literacy conference is an opportunity for students from across Alberta to come together and meet each other, share their learning journeys, develop new skills, and celebrate their achievements!

Each year, we sponsor about 60 students and tutors through our Bursary Fund. The bursaries cover the cost of registration, accommodation and travel expenses to the symposiums.

Donations to our Bursary Fund make training a reality for Albertans who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend a literacy event.

Without support from the community, many of our projects and initiatives would not be realized.
