Provincial Conference Bursary Program

"It's great to meet other students at the conference and find out what their programs are like."

Literacy Alberta sponsors between 25-50 students and 25-50 tutors to attend the annual Provincial Literacy Conference, through our donor funded bursary program.

Without these bursaries, many students would not be able to participate in the conference.

The literacy conference is an opportunity for students from across Alberta to come together and meet each other, share their learning journeys, develop new skills, and celebrate their achievements!

To make a donation to the bursary fund, use CanadaHelps.org or contact our office.

Student Journeys

"I have something to say. Instead of people telling me what I need, I want to tell them what I need."

"I like the opportunity to submit my writing to a newsletter."

Students of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to send us their story of how they have improved their lives as they have improved their literacy skills.

Danny's Journey

Hi, my name is Danny Haines and I'm from Edmonton. I've been a student with the Project Adult Literacy Society, more commonly known as PALS for almost four years. Although I have been able to get by on my reading skills, my writing has left a lot to be desired. After meetings with a staff member, I found out just how weak those skills really were. Read the rest of Danny's Story, Part One...

Read about Danny's continuing journey:

Each student embarks on a different literacy journey but through their stories, students send a message of hope and encouragement to other students.
